Berries del Oeste
“We were conceived to re-discover the satisfaction of the authentic strawberry. Utilising only natural methodologies, through the hybridization of distant families, we have achieved a plant vigor that has allowed us to select plants with fruit of great depth of flavour, excellent production, earliness and long shelf life”

Operation:
HydroBerry – Research on obtaining strawberry varieties with high nutritional value and improved organoleptic qualities developed for hydroponic cultivation.
Description: The HydroBerry project, led by Berries del Oeste in collaboration with the National Agri-Food Technology Center of Extremadura (CTAEX), focuses on developing strawberry varieties adapted to hydroponic cultivation. This soilless production system aims to improve the sustainability of the strawberry sector by optimizing water use, preventing soil contamination, and maintaining or improving fruit quality.
Objective:
- To genetically improve strawberry varieties adapted to hydroponic cultivation, resistant to fungi, and with high yield.
- To optimize growing conditions (nutrients, pH, temperature, irrigation) to maximize fruit productivity and quality.
- To analyze and compare the physicochemical and organoleptic characteristics of strawberries produced in hydroponic systems versus those grown using traditional methods.
- To evaluate the shelf life and post-harvest performance of the selected varieties. Promoting sustainability through the efficient use of resources and reducing the environmental footprint.
